Compact cards, what do you use
I am looking at buying some 4/8GB Compact cards, but there are so many on the market I am not sure what to get. I already have some Sandisk and Kingston Elite Pro both I am more than happy with. Would I see an improvement of read/write speed if I went for a UDMA card?
Or should I just get a mid range card as I don’t do many high continues shutter shots.

The 50D is UDMA enabled, so it would benefit from the speed increase. The camera would notice it, even if you don't.

I use 7 dayshop specials, either Danelec or kingston, I have never suffered from buffer problems as I tend not to take lots of frames a second, these are cheap and more than adequate, they show up as toshiba device when connected to the pc.

J your links not working
I'm the same I dont take lots of frames a second. I will look at the Danelec cards, UDMA cards are cheap too at the moment so might look at them as well.
Just got 2 x Batteries from 7day shop for £10.98 not a bad price I think.

Thanks J
As said I have ordered a couple of batteries for the 50D.
Think I better wait untill pay day before getting anything more. I already have 2 x 1Gb and 4 x 2 GB cards so should be ok for a bit

I tend to just use 4gb cards phil and 8gb across two cards is a lot of space

I prefer the "not all your eggs in one basket" approach
I will look at possibly 2 x 4Gb cards.
Thanks

Phil I use Sandisk, I have 2G, 4G and 8G. All were purchased from the 7 day shop. The 8G is always in the 1D as card of choice and is the 30Mbs and I never suffer from buffer even in machine gun mode and yes I will admit it I do use that. 4G is in the 40D and then the two 2G are backup but Ive never really needed them to be fair.

For no particular reason all my cards are Sandisk.
I picked up a 16Gb card from Currys for £45 reduced from £79 a couple of months back.

I have 2 Lexar Pro UDMA 8GB and 1 @ 4GB which I bought in the USA for the 50D. Plus various SanDisk Ultra 2 sizes 1GB to 4GB which I used prior to the purchase of the Lexar cards. I haven't tried to see if the 50D handles the UDMA quicker that the SanDisk version but...as Paul said I probably wouldn't notice the difference but the camera may do.

I have Sandisk, (x2 2GB) Kingston (x2 4GB) and a cheapie 8GB which performs really well!
I got the cheapie 8GB at Memorybits and the others were 7dayshop.
I don't shoot a lot of FPS either so I'm more than happy with my selection.

May be worth noting that the Sandisk Ultra series used to be 20Mb/s but is now 30Mb/s - but a lot of retailers are still advertising them at the old speed so watch for old stock! I have 3 8GB Sandisk Ultra (all 30Mb/s) that I use in my 40D and they seem to be as fast as the camera can use. Most space I have ever used is a card-and-a-half in one day but I want to make sure that I have enough if I am away for a weekend or so with no access to download facilities. Frankly, compared with the cost of most camera bits, a spare card is hardly an arm and a leg - I think my last card cost around £21.

I tend to use Sandisk although I have got one Lexar Pro. I have a variety of sizes and use them depending on the type of meeting I'm going to.
It is worthwhile checking on whether the cards you buy are the genuine article as I discovered one of my Sandisks was a counterfeit.
