    Camera strap

I've tried a couple of camera straps on my 40D, the current being a padded neoprene type.
The problem is that I have Arthritis in my neck and it gets really painful after a short time.

Can anyone recommend a good strap (price not an issue!) that would relieve the weight of the camera on my neck?

Both Dee and I use an Op Tech Pro strap, which supports the camera and 300f4 plus converter very comfortably. Its neaprene but quite wide and comes in a range of colours

    Re: Camera strap

Hi,I'm using the Black Rapid Rs4,which hangs over one shoulder diagonally & fits on the camera tripod screw,so the camera hangs upside down to a normal strap,I have got used to it now & I personally think it's great despite it's high price tag, around about £60.
    I hope this helps.

    Kind Regards

    Re: Camera strap

I use a Black Rapid strap too, they hang over one shoulder like a sling bag does so the pressure isn't on your neck at all.

They do a women's version which has what can only be described as a boob curve in it lol... check it out here:

    Re: Camera strap

I use OP Tech but un clip the neck piece, then clip short straps together and it makes a very good hand strap by twisting your hand around in it, then hold the camera grip, I find the neck straps cumbersome and prefer to hold my camera in my hand.

Laura, put your existing camera strap over your shoulder instead of around your neck as no matter what strap you use around your neck the weight f the camera and lens is always the same.

    Jamie,

I found the neck straps cumbersome too. So pleased I bought a Black Rapid strap, such a better design and it makes carrying a camera on a strap a pleasant experience rather than a bumpy annoying one. Check out the pillock in the video on their website showing it off, bit of a berk but shows the ease of use these things bring :) Seriously worth checking out as it goes over your shoulder in a way that it won't slip off and the camera is easier to grab in the position it hangs too.

Is that the tecnical term for it! LOL

I have been using the Op Tech strap for a number of years and it is an excellent strap indeed. If I was to replace this with another though I would get the Black Rapid.

    Re: Camera strap

James are you on commission for Black Rapid? I will have a look and see but as I have not used a neck strap for so long I am happy to just hand hold with the short strap. When I use a lens with a tripod foot I just carry the kit by that.

Not on commission lol :) I just think they are superb (normal style camera straps have annoyed the hell out of me for years)

    Re: Camera strap

You can also get an additional little strap for the Black Rapid that passes under the arm pit and attached to the strap in front of and behind your shoulder which keeps the strap more stable on your shoulder.

    Re: Camera strap

I bought one of those but it wasn't so good as I found it made the strap restrict you a bit when shooting in portrait format.

I do still use it if I am walking about a lot with the camera but I unclip it when i start shooting.

I think given you have arthritis in the neck that the Rapid seems the way to go

    Re: Camera strap

I also use the OpTech/Kata straps with preference to the OpTech but I'm currently reviewing this little device which would solve the neck issue nicely:

    Home : Spider Camera Holster

For my style of work it could be ideal but it might be of interest to yourself.
