    New Printer

With my big five 'o' birthday I had to push the boat out somewhat and managed to get enough funds together for a new printer (with kind donations from my family and what I could collect together).

After hours of reading reviews, the mental torment of making a decision, reading more reviews, changing my mind, going through the whole process again I finally bit the bullet.

I have this afternoon collected and am now the proud owner of a Canon 9500mk2 (sorry Epson 2880). Looks to be a big beast and it's quite heavy.

Shopping around I found Jacobs had the printer for £499.99 which seemed to be a very reasonable price.

Now all of you who use this printer do you have any favoured paper? I have picked up a mixed box of Ilford Galerie paper from to try but wondered what you use.

Probably won't get the chance to rig the printer up till next week though.

    Cheers

Martin for every day printing A4, I find Costco's own brand "Kirkland " paper is brilliant. It prints on my Epson 2880 with no problems, the paper is super glossy, fast drying and for the price of approx £13 for 150 sheets you can't go wrong. For my shots that are going for sale or exhibiting usually A3 or A3+ I use Canon pro paper it is expensive but worth it and for everyday A3 stuff I use Jessops glossy. Chimpy

Ilford gallerie classic pearl works well with my Pixma Pro 9000. Permajet papers are certainly worth looking at and the Oyster has a nice textured finish. NTH

    Thanks Alun,

I have been using the Permajet Oyster with my Epson R800 and got some good results so may give that a try again. Reasonable costs too.

I'll look out for the Ilford as well.

    Thanks for the information.

Thanks Chimpy, I presume you use a generic profile for these papers? The Canons I believe are good and was frightened off today when I saw the price of some A3+ Canon Pro Platinum paper. Not sure my images warrant that kind of cash.

    Cheers

Martyn, I just pick the profile for Epson glossy on the fast quality setting it does the job. I use to use really expensive papers for all my prints but I quickly realised that the average person couldn't tell the difference also the high quality setting just drained my ink levels at a rapid rate, at £100 ish a set that was a bit expensive. I got the Canon Pro 9000 when I was your age! Really pleased with it after using Epson R800 and its jets that block every other time you use it. I use mostly Permajet Oyster and Matt. Just download the profiles from their site. Enjoy your new printer.

Thanks David, I have some Oyster A4 left over (only half a dozen sheets now) so will download a new profile for the Canon and give them a try.
