For your macro shots You could get a focussing rail which would attach to your tripod head.
You focus normally on the subject and then use the rail to fine tune the focus. It moves the camera closer to the subject in tiny increments, focussing without anything inside or outside of the camera moving.The autofocus can cause vibrations apparently. it's easy to use and won't put any strain on your wrists. The downside is that they are not cheap.
