    Tripod Help

    Hi

New to the site and am looking for advice.

I have been using a Slik 88 tripod since the early 80's and i was singing its praises on saturday when it broke. I know I know, poor quality as i have only had it for 30 years. I should send it back for a refund perhaps but I think maybe its time for a change.

What recommendations do you lot have?

    Re: Tripod Help

Thanks for that. I got a 550 d and a 100 - 400 zoom on saturday and thought i would go and play with them on the tripod, bit like a kid really. But when i got the tripod extended, one of the legs just kept going and extended out of the kitchen.
I Use it for all sorts of things Astro photography, do a lot of worky stuff, wildlife and budget is ??? yet.

    Re: Tripod Help

I use the Manfrotto 055XProB with a ball head. Its incredibly sturdy, and the fancy centre pole the swings horizontal for close to the ground shooting is ace, but its heavy and you know you've got it when strapped to your bag. I love it though, if money had allowed I would have got the carbon version as Pete suggests, but for me it was a cost issue.

There are the legs, but it looks like my 488RC2 head has been replaced with new models.

As has been said many times before, on many forums I've been on, do not scrimp on a tripod. If it can't keep you heaviest gear still its a waste of backpack space. Mine will comfortabley hold my 20D with my friends 100-400L on it.
