    Equipment Insurance

    Hi All
Been looking at specialist camera insurance to cover my gear both in transit and out in the field.
Just wondered if anyone could give any recommendations.

    Cheers

Barry I use Photoguard, found them to be reasonably priced with good cover. Never claimed off them so I can't comment on their service for when they need to pay out.

I use E&L. I have used them for years for my daughters riding insurance but noticed that they did camera equipment too.
I've never made a claim but have changed my policy as I've added equipment and found them really friendly and helpful.

I use Glover & Howe - a little independent where you often get to speak to the same person.

Always excellent and will include extra bits and pieces like Laptops if you so wish.

Don't forget to check what cover you get under your household policy, it may or may not be adequate for what you want.

Household policies, whilst they cover your gear to some extent, I have read are quick to quibble over points which specialist photography insurers won't (ie they understand the gear you're insuring properly)

    Aaduki for me.
Not had to make a claim (touches wood), so can't vouch for that side of things, but otherwise brilliant service.

Yeah cover provided under your household won't be right for everyone. I would imagine a lot depends on the value of stuff you want to cover. Ultimately if paying for another policy gives you the peace of mind you want then its probably worth it for that alone when lugging all your gear around :)

    Re: Equipment Insurance

An important thing to remember is ensuring that your stuff is insured when in the car, as you probably don't carry all of it with you all the time.
Glover & Howe do cover you for that.

    Re: Equipment Insurance

Another very important point to note is that if you sell images/prints, or offer prints for sale (even if you haven't actually sold any) - then household, and any amateur
insurance policies will not be liable to pay out in the event of a claim.
Aaduki do a semi-pro policy which will cover this, but without the added cost of public liability that goes with a full pro policy.
They also cover equipment theft from a locked boot of a car - provided it is not left overnight (I think it is between 6am and 9pm), and they use Jacobs Camera for
replacement equipment in the event of a claim.
Hope that helps anyone who is considering some cover.
