    Hi Chris

a lot of people use these filters, they are considered to be better than Cokin, but not as good as Lee. Most people
also report a slight colour cast from using them, more pronounced when stacked, easily sorted in PS.

If I didn't already have Lee, I would not hesitate in buying them.

I bought the 100mm version of this and had to send two back, they had such a heavy magenta cast to them. I then bought a Heliopan 3.0ND screw in instead, just as bad!
Unlike Lez though, my experience was that I couldn't sort the cast out in PS.
Having said that, I also have the 0.6 and 0.9 graduated ND filters by Hitech and swear by them.

Similar here, my Hitech ND grads are fine, but when I tried a 6stop ND and everything went a bit Barbara Cartland.
Sent it back to Formatt with no quibbles.

Don't waste your money, Chris. Not one of their better filters.

I quite often use a Marumi ND-8 screw in filter if I want to slow things down, and I have to say it's a quality piece of kit, especially for the money.
Very neutral, and it cleans seaspray much easier than anything else I have used.
That would be of no help at all if you are struggling with WA vignetting from the filter holders on the 10-20 though, I guess

I agree. All my Hitech grads are great. I purchased a 10 stopper and it was a big disappointment. I decided that I also didn't have the required patience to wait forever to get an image

Re: 10 stop ND filter (P Series)

I've just bought a Light Craft Workshop 9 stop screw-in ND from Premier Ink (having played around with my home-made welding glass filter, I thought it was time to have a go with the real thing). I had my first outing with it yesterday, and results so far look good. No colour cast that I could see - the lighting was a bit flat when I used it yesterday, and I'd want to test it in a range of conditions before publicly stating an opinion on it - but so far so good....

Re: 10 stop ND filter (P Series)

Thanks for your help guys, very interesting. I am actually contemplating waiting a bit and getting a Lee set up... funny, when I say "Lee Filters" I go all faint at the prospect of spending £100's on filters, just hope the missus never finds out!! That said, the ones that Alex recommended perform well and I am happy with them. I was wondering what result I would get if I stacked a couple of the Solid ND's ??

By the way, I am still having issues with notifications. i got the first reply to this post but no others. It was only because I was searching through "new posts" that i saw there were several replies... weird!

Re: 10 stop ND filter (P Series)

Buying into a system is actually quite a missus-friendly approach. "If I buy this system, then it will work with all my lenses, all I need is different size adapter rings and I can use the one filter holder with all my lenses"

    Then, in 6 months time...

"There's this new filter I want, but it fits into my existing filter holder, so I can use it with all my lenses"

    Then, in 12 months time....

"There's this new lens I want to get....plus, the only additional outlay might be a different size adapter ring and it'll take all of my filters"

And, if all else fails, there's always Interflora

Re: 10 stop ND filter (P Series)

When it comes to birthdays and Christmases, I always get asked what I would like.
I now ask for money to put towards something that I want.

For my 40th birthday I got Series 1 of Friends on Video as a surprise. I don't even have a video player these days!!
Its less of a headache for my parents and family what to buy me.

So you have a birthday coming up soon?
