    Lee or Cokin filters advice

I thought I would call upon you fine people for advice regarding filter systems.

I have been debating whether or not to buy a Lee Filter foundation kit with a couple of ND grads and a polariser. Or, buy the Cokin Z Pro holder and some Hitech filters.

The other question I have is, can anyone offer advice with regards to using a polariser with either of these holders and what is the best configuration, i.e. CP or linear?

Do these filter holders accept the polariser similar to a P series CP, in so much as they slot into the first available slot nearest the camera or are they externally mounted.

Sorry for sounding dumb but any advice will hopefully influence my final decision when parting with my hard earned cash!

    Hi Chris

One thing to start with - you cannot get a CPL from Cokin for their z-pro series (avail only for A,P & X)

Linear polariser's do not work with metering system's on DSLR's (IIRC), so it has to be a CPL (be warned,
the Lee 105 cpl is costly, and needs an adapter ring to attach it to the filter system too).

Horses for courses, don't think there is much between the Lee or z-pro holder in term of quality or price,
you just pick a system you are happy with and stick to it. Worth mentioning, the grads from either system
    will fit in either holder.

Thanks Lee, so how do Z Pro owners get over the CP issue if they cannot use a linear type due to metering. Am I assuming then that the Lee holder would be better in that case. My only concern was justifying the cost of the Lee system. With a holder, adapter, CP & adapter, plus a range of ND's I could be looking at ££££'s

    Chris

I looked at getting a CP for my Z-Pro filter holder (link) the cost of the Cokin version put me off needing one

The Cokin version sits in the first slot of the holder and would enable it to be used in conjunction with other filters (e.g. NDgrad or similar) in the holders other slots. However having checked the options and discussed those with a Manchester supplier I did purchase a Kenko Circular PL from HERE
NB. they do also list the Cokin Z164, IHTH

Chris, it's probably nigh-on impossible to get a good deal with Lee filters, and a possibility of a wait.

Try these, you can see the stock they have - I would still give them a quick call to make sure first though.
