Canon Printers

This is a discussion on Canon Printers within the Accessories forum, part of the Equipment category; Is the Canon 9500 printer worth another £160 compared with the 9000? Any advice would be appreciated thanks....

    Hi Rob

I went for the 9500, was a harder decision than I thought it would be. Don't think you would really notice the difference in ink types (pigment over dye).
However, the pro9500 produces fab B&W images, due to the addition of the matt black & grey inks, so that tilted the choice for me and I have no regrets.

So if you won't be printing many B&W images, I would save the money and get the 9000.

One other thing worth thinking about - the 9000 uses the same inks as my 5200. I buy compatibles for that from JetTec and find little discernible difference
in the print over original inks. I regularly use the 5200 to print all sizes up to A4 and am more than happy to send you a sample if you would like to see for
    yourself.

As Lez has said, the 9500 is better for black and white printing. I bought the 9000 three and a half years ago for £400 and have found it to be excellent for colour ( I have only done one b+w so far in all that time!). I see that Warehouse Express are currently selling the 9000mk2 for £249 including cashback.

The pound signs in my post have been changed to question marks in black squares, very odd.

    Re: Canon Printers

I am also thinking hard about taking advantage of Canon's current cashback offer and buying a 9000 printer. I don't do enough B&W to justify the extra cost of the 9500 and for my limited requirements I still prefer the contrast and impact of a darkroom produced B&W print. I have two reasons for hesitating with my purchase: a. the physical size (footprint) of an A3 printer and b. the cost of consumables (price per print). I obviouosly cannot do anything about the former and I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and somehow find sufficient floorspace. However, I'd be grateful for the thoughts of other users in terms of print costs - including Canon v compatable products. I wouldn't want to use compatables if that meant a discernable drop in quality, ie noticeable to the human eye, rather than measureable by a machine.
