    Panoramic head

What do you use for panoramic shots, is it home made or specialist item? I have been looking around to see what there is and everything seems awfully expensive for something that might not be used a great deal of the time.
There also seem to be some home made items that work - what are you using?

Nothing, just the basic ball head - not ideal, I use it in portrait mode and use a 50% overlap. Composition wise, I just allow "extra" landscape to allow for cropping after stitching.
I will invest in a "proper" head one day, but considering getting the Panosaurus Rex mount in the meantime.

I'm the same as Lez, Nigel. Use my ball head with a half lap each frame and try to keep the fl above 20mm to aid for better stitching.

    Lez/Alex

Thanks very much. I usually do the same thing and overlap the same but read a good article the other day on a web site promoting the benefits of a pano head so thought I'd take a look around. I actually have a Manfrotto 454 positioning plate and just did a little experiment to see if I could get the front of the lens over the central point and it seems to work so I'll try it at the weekend to see if its any better than just the tripod.
