    Canon RC1

Anyone got one of these - are they worthwhile? I bought one on a whim and it arrived yesterday and doesn't appear to work .

If you press the release button, I presume that the light at the end is supposed to come on - this one doesn't so possibly batteries are flat but anyone with any experience - would appreciate your views please.

    Re: Canon RC1

I haven't got one of these, but I would have thought the light will only go on when it makes a connection to the sensor?

I suspect that you've already read up about them, but from what I've just googled, it sounds like you have to be in specific positions for the signal to reach the sensor on the camera, which seems to be pretty much in front of the camera - so good for self potraits but probably not much else? Presumably you have tried pointing it directly at the sensor and have change the settings on your camera?

Exactly what I thought Fiona - thanks. I've tried all sorts but nothing. I think it will go back tomorrow.

Nigel, you need to set the camera to self timer (you then get another icon there that allows the remote to function.

Can either of you tell me from 1st hand experience, when you press the shutter release on the RC1, does the end bit light up - because its not on the one I've got.

5D MK2 Lez. I just read another article on the net and it said that the infrared sensor should light up when you press the release (mine doesn't - hence I thought either batteries dead or duff product).

oops, just noticed - mine is a Yonguno one, works perfectly on the 5D2 and 7D.

Looks like you may have to try the batteries then......Good luck!

My RC1 doesn't light up, flash, or emit any light that I can see with the naked eye, but it triggers the camera.

Try it on a different camera. That will rule out either the remote or the camera...

Got the batteries checked out - they're duff! Supposed to be a new (and tested so they tell me) item.
