Isn't that an extremely useful gadget?
Generally, when photographers start to really get to grips with flash, the off camera flash cord helps to put the light where you want it and that in turn makes the flash a useful tool, rather than a necessary evil.

It one of those that's useless in some situations, useful in others. For £30 I'm not going to be to upset if I only use it once in a blue moon.

A black backdrop with supports etc ............used it once for family photo shot.
Cats decided to sleep on it, covered in hair, washed, ironed (much to her indoors disgust) and now back in cupd for last 8 months.......

My spur of the moment gadget was a PSP Go. I bought it (via my other half who I sent off with card and pin number [dangerous I know]) the day after an operation I had on my back last year.

Played it alot when all I could do was lay flat for a fortnight but haven't used it since :/

Re: Spur of the moment ......Gadgets...?

Umm... I could probably come up with a fair list.

    StoFen Omnibounces...
EF 100mm f/2.8 USM macro (probably taken around 10 photos, none of which are really "macro")
Lowepro slip lock pouch for a water bottle to attach to some of my Lowepro bags - never been used
Tamrac Super-pro 14. An enormous shoulder camera bag that's way too bloody big to carry around. Never left my living room. Still in the corner somewhere buried (with the aforementioned 100mm macro languishing in it.

    Glenn,

I will happily take that 100mm off your hands if it a burden to you

Re: Spur of the moment ......Gadgets...?

lol I bought it 'cos I felt I SHOULD have a macro lens. I still feel I should have a macro lens, I just never seem to get around to using it lol

I took it to Goodwood once to get some close ups of car mascots and I took it out and took some blurry photos of leaves once. I think that's the sum total of its use.

My spur is probably my car mounting gear that i've used about 5 times and put away for the last 12 months. wasn't cheap either!

When I started in photography many moons ago I bought the Cokin kit of "creative" filters ie keyhole, binocular and heart shapes.
Needless to say they weren't used at all (much)

    OOh....... Where to start,

A Lowepro toploader AW 65 bag, a chest harness that fits on it, the wide belt for wearing it around your waist and a couple of sliplock lens pouches for the belt. They seemed like a good idea at the time but I still only use my ancient gadget bag I bought from a second hand shop about 20 years ago.

Oh and a Gorilla pod that has never left the house........

Re: Spur of the moment ......Gadgets...?

I bought some cheap UV filters with my starter lenses (Tamron 70-300mm and the canon kit lens 18-55mm) which did get some use early on but have since found their way to 'the bottom of the bag'. The salesman was rather insistent that I would be foolish not to purchase these to protect my lenses - he implied it was something all photographers did.

I have more expensive Hoya filters for my newer lenses - but I only tend to use them when I am worried that there is significant chance of the lens getting soiled - eg shooting my sons soccer games.

I also foolishly bought some cheap polarising filters which are a real pain to use on the above starter lenses as the lenses both rotate when focusing

Re: Spur of the moment ......Gadgets...?

I spotted a slave flash for a tenner on ebay from HK.

It worked by sensing the flash from your pop-up flash and then firing. You can set the 7D to delay for the pop up and then fire on the slave so thought this was a great idea.

Lasted about 10 goes and the bulb blew up
