    20" widescreen monitor £89.99

I have seen a 20" monitor in Aldi, it is made by Medion and has a bargain price of £89.99!
    Max res is 1600x9000
    contrast 1000:1
    Dynamic contrast 30000:1
    brightness 250 cd/m2
    view angle 160'
    response time 5ms
and has speakers built in too

Would this be a worthwhile purchase or do you get what you pay for?

    Hi James,

Are yu sure about that maximum resolution - I think that should probably be 900 not 9000.

Generally speaking, yes, you do get what you pay for.

Quality monitors are not much more expensive, for example, Samsung do a 22" widescreen for the sum of £120 (price at www.novatech.co.uk) with a 3 year on site guarantee. I use a 22" 226BW and find it excellent for photoshop work.

Hugh, yes 900 and not 9000 as my stuttering finger typed!

Hi Lez, I have just looked on Novatech, very good prices and a good product range, thanks for the info.

For just general computer work, probably fine. For serious photography work you need to spend a lot more. Most computer monitors on the market today are very poor at colour reproduction and most can't even manage to display the whole sRGB colour space.
