Thats a lovely clean sharp shot of a beautiful bird. I love the keen eyes and beak and theres just a hint of the talons. reminds me of the quote "nature, red in tooth and claw"

Stan,
My apologies, I thought I had commented on this. It's a wonderful shot, great composition, great sharpness, lovely wing position and a superb angle of attack.
There is an absence of anything like this round here, we used to have a place with birds of prey down the road but it closed down 4 or 5 years ago.
I can't wait until I get my tele-prime, I will have to make a point of going out and visiting some places similar to this.

Hi James
Thanks very much for looking.
We have a similar place closer to home, at Ringwood but the flying grounds at the Hawk Conservancy, about 45 miles from us, near Andover, are much larger, so better backgrounds are available. Well worth a trip, if you are not too far away, I know of one photographer who regularly comes from Croydon. You would be fine for reach with your 100-400, most of the time I am using only up to 300mm.There is an absence of anything like this round here, we used to have a place with birds of prey down the road but it closed down 4 or 5 years ago.

It's only about an hour and a half away it seems. Now to find a free weekend to visit! :)
I used to keep a Barn Owl (that was bred in captivity) and flew it off the glove regularly. I found some old negs recently with some photos of it taken with probably my old Canon body. I must get them scanned.
