Hi Paul
I have refilled these cartridges and have been fine with colour images. I sell prints so I know these have been fine. I haven't done any B&W with this printer. I am using the Canon Pixma software. Where do I find the properties to check ?

When you select the print button. you should have a new window pop up to choose paper sizes, and other such stuff. There will be a box to choose GREYSCALE in one of the tabs.

Grant,
When you select print from the menu there will be a properties button somewhere on the print dialogue screen select this to get into all your print options.
