A great meandering intro Steven.
Already we have seen some quality images from you, and we all look forward to reading your critiques of others' as you have a great eye for detail.
Welcome to Canon Fodder.

A friend of mine recommended this forum to me. I'm not sure why I didn't come across it before...must be hiding from Google :)
I'm originally from Ireland (Dublin) and moved to New York with a rock band in 1987 and spent ten years there. I then moved to Dallas in Texas for a few years and in 2000 moved to my current home in Seattle, Washington.
I've been shooting video for almost a decade and cut my photographic teeth capturing the moving image. When the 5D Mark II came out, a friend of mine asked if I would review it for his Web site and sent me his gear to play with for a while. The intent was really to test drive the video capabilities but I became enamored with the beauty of the still images it produced.
I held onto it for six weeks and the day I returned it to him, my own 5D Mark II arrived at my door.
I love shooting landscapes and people. My wife and I go camping in our popup trailer anytime we get the chance and my camera and I always come away from new places with lots of new photographs.
I never ever become complacent about the true gift of photography. I look upon it with a childlike wonder and every day I'm surprised by how beautiful an image it can produce. Photography has helped me slow down and really "see" the world around me and I consider that the greatest gift of all...
I like this forum because the comments are substantial and I learn from them. Unlike other sites where you can't grow from a "great shot!" style comment. One of the other things that draws me to photography is the fact that I know I will keep learning until I'm physically unable to take pictures.
I appreciate the time everyone has taken to comment so far and I will certainly return the favor. You can see samples of my work scattered in the landscapes, monochrome and people sections.
Sorry about the big meandering intro :)

Yes a very warm welcome to you, Steven. Your words about the gift of seeing the world 'anew' as it were are very true. I've already enjoyed viewing and commenting on your images and look forward to more.

Welcome to CFF Steven. I have not seen your images in landscape or p[eople yet (will check them out later) but I am very envious of your location!
Was the rock band famous (or even infamous)?

Thanks everyone. Hugh, the band did not achieve any notoriety, it was just another in an endless sea. We were called Aerosmith.
Just kiddin' :)

Uh, okay then "Naked Grape"
I seriously doubt anyone has heard of us. If you are seriously interested in reading my bio (with a photo of me with long hair in my band), you can read about it here (it's a couple of years old and doesn't include anything about photography): Pine Lake Films - Steven Dempsey - Biography
