    Keld Falls, North Yorkshire

Here are some relatively unknown water falls just down the road from the Tan Hill pub. This is a one of a few taken during the weekend while on a hill walking trip. WDYT? I'm interested to know.

I quite like this picture Jon.
The only thing I'd suggest is to perhaps clone out the area of sky by the tree trunk in the top right of the image. I feel it draws the eye and detracts from the main subject slightly. Just my own thoughts on it. Otherwise a very nice capture and I'd have been pleased if it were mine.

Kev is right about that piece of sky - the only problem is if you crop it out you will lose the top let of the waterfall. You could try cloning the grass and filling the area in, if you know what I mean! I think then you'll have a very nice shot - well captured.

I know the horrors of taking this kind of pic JB, great looking shot and I can see now your excuse for absence lol.

Nice one JB. The colours are good and nice 'milky' water flow. I'm pesonally of the opposite view to the others so far in that its the large rock at the bottom that i find distracting. If you had framed it with more at the top of the waterfall (including the blue sky) but just above the rock it could possibly have been better. Try cropping the rock out and see how it looks.

Is there a car park near Keld?

One of my favourite waterfalls and a well taken shot. it can get quite busy there in summer but a lovely place to visit in the winter months.

For me it would be worth sacrificing a bit of the top of the falls to get rid of the piece of sky but I think you've got the water just right, really like it.

Well put together and the movement is good. I do feel that the light is a bit to general and perhaps it lacks mood because of that. Rob

My first view, I was drawn in to the water giving a moody/relaxing feel to the picture then drawing out towards the big rock at the front, which is almost a point for 'peeping over' towards the falling water. Having read the above comments you tend to focus on what is being said and see it more. If you do scroll the picture down and lose the big rock however, it does give it a different feel. I like the shot.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Reading the above suggestions prompted me to start covering up certain sections of the image to see what it would look like with a different crop. My better half walked past the study and now thinks I'm losing my marbles!!

Thanks for the tips and advice - This is the first shot I've posted with the 10-20mm. Takes some getting used to.

Is there a car park near Keld?
There is yes Andre. Along with an honesty box. £1 for an hour. £2 for anything above that - even overnight.

A lot to like about this one, especially the flow of the water and exposure. However, I'm with Andre on this one and would have avoided the large rock at the bottom frame edge and included a little bit above the waterfall. Good capture.

    Hi Jon,

Good sharpness and focus and I like the movement in the water. I can't comment on the compo though because the image is too big for my screen.

    Cheers,

It's a lovely place up there, last year or maybe '08 I got some nice falls in Keld & Thwaite.

Swaledale should be a summer location for a meet I reckon.
