I like the contrast in the colours in this. My only concern is that my eye keeps going up an down, if there had been a few more waves in the centre it would have helped hold it all together better. Very pleasant though. Rob

Back to coastal shooting at long last after a forced wait of close to six months! Tripod came in handy to support me as well as the camera [thank you Slik].
The tower in the B/G dates back to the time of the Knights of St. John and forms part of a chain of observation posts built around the coast to keep a lookout for Saracen corsairs.
40D with Tamron 17-50 at f/l of 42mm, f/13 for a 1/2s exposure at ISO100.
Cokin 0.8 ND Grad, tripod mounted and remote shutter release. Metering - evaluative.

I like it a lot Rob, but I think if it were mine I'd crop it to just sea and waves, they are realy nice.

There's something about the colours in #1 which don't sit quite right with me. I think it's because the warm tones in the sky aren't reflected in any way in the water - could that be symptomatic of the Cokin filter, perhaps?

Hmm, I was going to say that I prefer the colours in the first....however I'm not a landscaper so I don't speak with any authority on the subject, I only know that if you put the two up side by side I would pick the first because of the pretty colours! Also I like the way the water is cascading over the rocks in the first which you don't see as well in the zoomed out version.

Lovely hues in the edited version. I like it, Mark but do find the fg rocks a bit of a visual hurdle instead of a lead in. I think (although it's difficult to say) that I would have preferred a wider landscape format to include more of the width of the fg rocks or a portrait pov further right to utilise them as a stonger lead-in line.

Rob and Alun are onto something, the rocks act as a barrier to the eye and force you to gaze up and down and never settle, Lovely colours and exposure on the water though.

You're absolutely right and I guess that's what makes the eyes wander about the frame. Must admit I focused my attention to a vertical frame and didn't try l/s framing...[marked for next time]. Further to the right is not possible there because of slippery rocks. I'll have to try out a different POV but that's for when my leg allows easier movement on those rocks.
Thanks for the critique,
cheers
