I hope I have captured the beauty of Loch Lomond in this 22 minute exposure (just prior to the moon rising over the mountains)

How do you hold button for 22 minutes?
I love it, what made you decide on 22 minutes out of interest?
glad you did results are superb

One of the best shots of Loch Lomond I've seen for a long time Ian.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. Very much appreciated :)
Mark, I was out there for just over an hour.. hehe.
Stuart, I firstly composed the image using the ISO1600, F3.5 trick as I couldn't see a darn thing through the camera and had to use my phone to see the buttons :). Used a car on the A82 behind me to get focus lock (then switched to MF)
Once I'd got a couple of shots and made a few alterations to the camera angle etc., I then dialled in to F8, ISO 100.
As for deciding on 22 minutes. I have to admit, I had no guidelines as to how long I needed to expose for. However, I initially did a 15 minute exposure which was too dark. Not enough light around the edges of the image.
For the second attempt I intended on a 20 minute exposure but then I noticed the moon light becoming a touch brighter to the left of the loch so decided to allow a couple more minutes. I suppose it was part guesswork.
As for holding the button. I was happily sat in my car watching a movie on the laptop :D. Used my IR release in BULB mode. Fortunately, you don't need to hold the button down.
-1 degrees C but I'm very pleased :)

My God you have some patience, I could never wait that long. A very pleasant scene and delightful tones within. Rob

Hehe. Cheers Rob. I understand what you mean, but when you're out there and there's nobody but you, the loch, and something whooping in the background (which thankfully didn't decide to eat me), it's easy to appreciate the time it would take to get the shot :)
Just after that shot was the most amazing moon rise over the mountains. A bolt of light across the loch and everything went quiet.

Absolutely stunning!!!
I love Loch Lomond, fond memories of picnics there with my parents as a child.

Thanks Laura,
Incidentally, if anyone views the EXIF of the image through their browser, are they seeing the image taken on the 3rd, or the 5th March? I'm using FXIF and it's giving me random dates each time I right click and view an image (which is particularly irksome for copying EXIF).
The image was actually taken at 11:50pm on March 3rd. That can be seen correctly using right click properties within the OS environment as opposed to a broken Firefox plugin. :)

A WOW shot for sure Ian, just beautiful colours there.

Fantastic image, such serenity- I have tried quite a bit in/around Portsmouth, and there seems to be so much light pollution I can't keep the shutter open long enough for the exposure!
As for your question- this is what Opanda iExif shows:
Software = Adobe Photoshop CS3 Windows
Date Time = 2010-03-05 20:12:11
Exposure Time = 1320"
Date Time Original = 2010-03-03 23:50:22
Date Time Digitized = 2010-03-03 23:50:22
possibly why you get both 5th and 3rd?

Excellent camera work Ian, has resulted in a stunning image.
Love the idea of watching a film whilst taking a shot. I took a work call yesterday whilst stood in the sea, but that takes the biscuit
