    Supersize

I was out Yesterday walking around my local country estate and managed to get some shots off at some Red squirrels which i was pretty happy with but felling a little deflated now as pics arent as close as I would have liked.
I had the Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II USM Lens fitted at the time.
Image Below had to be cropped.

Squirrel by Walter Evans, on Flickr

    Camera: Canon EOS 60D
    Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
    Aperture: f/2.8
    Focal Length: 200 mm
    ISO Speed: 250
    Exposure Bias: +2/3 EV
Lens: EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

Im now looking at possible stepping up, and would like your views and opinions ?? looking at either the Canon EF 400mm f5.6 L USM Lens or the Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L IS USM Lens
    cheers folks

If it is the long end you need which for wildlife it usually is I would go for the 400 f5.6 prime lens

Why not try the 2x converter on the 70-200?

    Re: Supersize

It might be worth trying the 1.4x Mark III extender on the 70-200mm II first as it will give you a good increase in focal length without much loss of image quality (you will lose a fair bit of quality with a 2x extender though). Otherwise, if you are going to keep the 70-200mm then the 400mm f/5.6 would be a good choice.

If you can stretch to it, I would suggest the 300 f4 L is, a very versatile lens indeed. You can add a 1.4x to it and get a 420mm f5.6 lens , with the benefit of is.
Another feature of the lens is it's close focus ability (1.5m - why I chose it over the f2.8 variant), making it suitable for semi-macro (butterflies etc.).

This combination is also Image Stabilized
I also have the 100-400L which I think is a great versatile lens.

If you would like to try them out, give me a bell and we can meet up
