Seems a little dark to me especially the rhs , are you trying to project the gloomy north?

This is a discussion on local landmarks project. within the Monochrome forum, part of the Galleries and Techniques category; i've decided to try and get a collection of half decent shots of local landmarks in and around glossop together ...

not sure why it seems to be dark, it seems ok on my monitor particularly when its full size. it was so grey and gloomy that not long after midday i was needing 20 sec exposure with not much filtration.
this is no.1 of the project, i'm aiming for 5 by the time i'm 90!!!!
i don't think tesco's counts as a landmark!! make that 4 then.
cheers, any less gloomy over there?

A bit too much in this for me . I think you have better chances in the lower water and wood patterns although the lighting is rather poor. Rob

thanks for the comment, it was poor lighting i agree, as regards my chances in the lower water area i'm sure i would get a better composition if i focused my attentions on the interest in the water however the idea of the project is to try to capture local landmarks, dinting railway bridge being the subject of this one. its proving to be fairly difficult and reminds me how grim glossop actually is!

I love what you have done with the water and there's definitely a composition within it and the trees trunkes etc. but I feel the bridge somewhat unbalances the image.
I appreciate it's a local landmark project so of course the trees in the water would not fit into that category but like those, there'll certainly be a composition for the bridge too.
It does have an extra level of darkness to the right hand side.

Hi,
Really like the image but .... there is always one of those... I think it needs more sky (and an angry sky!) to suit this style of processing.

Is that Dinting Arches..... I'm sure I've been there. I like this shot, and having had to do stuff to portray Glossop in the past - I know it's not easy. Shoot up to Doctors Gate....
