    Both very nice Bob. I prefer number 2 I think. I like the pale tree background behind the bird. They kind of look 3D, I don't know why. Like they are going to fly out of the photo.

    Thanks Graham, I preferred that one too but I thought the way it fitted into the gap on the third one might also have appeal.

    All great shots Bob! I like number 2 the best as there is a little more room in the frame. I prefer the feather detail in number 3, where the flight feathers have lifted slightly from the rest (?the ones on the tips of the wings?), and like you say how it sits in the gap of the trees, but it just feels a little tight in the frame for my liking.

    Is the black kite endemic / native to the UK? I regularly see the red kites over the M40 when I'm travelling up north to visit my family ... they provide a pleasant distraction from the tedium of the motorway drive!

    Thanks Gem. I could give #3 a less tight crop, I was trying to get the diagonal to fit.

    I have never heard of black kites until I went to the zoo last week, I guess they're not native.
