Have you Googled this problem?
How are you connecting it? If its a USB connection, then try another port. You may need to get the drivers from the WWW.

Yes, I have googled it and someone else had the same problem. They reinstalled windows to fix it. I am not going there though! I normally load my file direct from the card anway. I just wanted to try the remote shooting from the PC out of interest. I will search the web for a driver.

I guess you are not a PC and Windows 7 wasn't your idea
My first port of call would be to Canon website for possible driver update?
Good luck

Did the update resolve your issue Martin?

I haven't tried yet. My 40D was only back from its sensor clean for a couple of days and has gone back again as the sensor is still dirty! I hope to get it back this week. I will let you know.

OK. Will look out for your answer. I too have a 40D and am about to buy a new PC - trying to decide between Vista and W7.

Don't touch Vista, it is awful! Hence the fairly swift follow up with W7.

Was reading an amusing operating system benchmark today. It compared Windows 7, XP and Vista for performance. Despite Microsoft's (usual) claims of Windows 7 being the "fastest windows yet", the performance honours were equally shared between Windows 7 and Windows XP. Vista came last in every single category.

Hope Canon sort that mess out with your camera seeing as they are doing you a favour.
